About this wine blog
It’s a casual guide to drinking red wine with your cats. Kidding! But, it’s perfectly O.K. if that’s what makes you happy.
Why write about wine?
I began writing about wine because I simply wanted to learn more. I love wine and sharing unique bottles (and gratuitous cat photos) with my millions of readers.* I love the writing, research, learning, and sipping.
Stories are contained in every bottle! Family histories, what drives people to grow grapes and make wine, how the wine is made… geography lessons, science, poetry, art, winery animals, how each vintage presents unique challenges—it’s all fascinating!
“You’ll never know everything about anything, especially something you love.” ~
Why did I choose the wonderful name, Red Wine Cats?
Wine Cats and Wine Cat were taken (insert the nerd emoji face here;).
Wine is a journey and you’ll never run out of new things to learn
My wine journey began in my early 20’s, where shockingly enough, cheap white Zinfandel and bad oaked Chardonnay didn’t leave me with a permanent distaste for the fermented grape. For years I (regretfully) didn’t touch Chardonnay, but now I love this noble grape. So, I invite you to step out of your wine comfort zone and try something new. Try another style, winemaker, or region. Go visit a local wine shop and ask for suggestions. We’re all learning something new every day, and learning is fun!
“Anyone who tries to make you believe that he knows all about wines is obviously a fake.” ~Leon Adams, The Commonsense Book of Wine
As far as receiving samples for review
Please contact me via email- Misty@RedWineCats.com. I’m open to and love all wines, and am happy to support them via this blog and social media. My focus is on smaller, family-owned, sustainable wineries. All photos are mine, mostly taken with my iPhone. Some cartoon or random amusing images may be borrowed and added to posts (sources will be credited).
A little bit about my background and qualifications
I’m a R.D.H. with an applied science degree (Day job: Dental Hygienist). I also have a WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) certificate and have been enjoying wine for 20+ years (makes me an expert, no?). I’ve worked in wine sales with a local distributor and manage social media accounts as well. Truthfully, I’m in a constant state of learning something new in the world of wine (which makes it so interesting!).
Thank you for visiting and I hope you’ll find new wines to love, as well as hard-working winemakers and small, family-owned wineries to support through this site (even if you don’t, you’ll get to see random cat photos, and seriously, who doesn’t love that?).
Share wine with friends and be happy.
Cheers,
Misty 🙂
